Very Special English Agility Championship Tradition

Well in the good ole' USA when someone finishes their MACH they are showered with gifts from their admiring friends. There is much celebration and dancing. Sometimes there are parties that go WAY overboard that involve singing and poems. I won't get into that here....but some people know what I am talking about (terry and annmarie!?)

In Merry Old England there is a very ancient tradition (in case you didn't know: England is much older than the USA) that involves cabbage. I could tell you why you get cabbage when you finish your dog's agility championship but then I would have to kill you. You will have to figure it out yourself.

First of all I have to announce that Terry did NOT get a poem this time for Keeper's MACH but if she wants, I can pull some strings for her!!!

As for the cabbage, my first guess is that after all the money spent on entry fees, gas, tolls, hotels, etc. on your way to your CH, you have no money left for food. At least that's what it's like here in the US! (I hate when you do this Bernadette!!!)

Not just any old cabbage......but 'organic' cabbage!!! Steve would be most upset!

Apparently it makes a great puppy snack too! ;-)

You think the English are strange -try visiting Jersey! Haha!!

Because its a slang term for (American?) money/cash??? Or because it's also used to mean "doing nothing" so the cabbage implies that your work is over and you can sit around and relax?

I also found it as a term for someone who's "slow" and a few other things I won't mention (Google is your friend!), but I can't make a connection between any of them and agility!

That looks more like the even more ancient 'giving of lettuce' tradition as it looks more like a lettuce than a cabbage.:)

It must be an "Organic cabbage" that is very important.

Well, I don't want to know. No I really do not want to know. No. No. Certainly not. I have no problems whatsoever with controlling my curiosity.

I think Bernadette's having a good laugh on all of us - I asked an agility friend from England (now living in the US) about this bizarre "custom" and she hadn't a clue either :) :) :)!
